Beginner guide: find your next destination
Hold Gaze to orient yourself, check your penguin’s abilities in the pause menu, and use Recall if you get trapped. Start with those three controls before committing to a difficult route.
Get moving
- Open the pause menu and find the bindings for Gaze and Recall. Use your current mapping rather than a key copied from another player.
- Hold Gaze when you cannot identify the next destination. Use the direction it reveals to choose your route.
- Check the current penguin’s abilities before approaching small passages or water. Young emperor penguins have different limitations from adults.
- If terrain traps you, use Recall to inhabit another penguin. Continue once movement responds again.
If the opening shows keyboard prompts
A v1.5 Xbox-controller report describes keyboard prompts at the red-light tutorial. The player used the right bumper for Gaze, after which Xbox prompts appeared. This is a reported workaround for that opening sequence, not a universal controller fix.
